Stanley Nwabali, the skilled goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has attracted attention from clubs in France and Saudi Arabia, along with South African team Kaizer Chiefs. Nwabali currently serves as the first-choice goalkeeper for Chippa United in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in South Africa.
Despite his allegiance to Chippa United, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has become a hot commodity due to his outstanding performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Kaizer Chiefs has expressed a strong interest in securing Nwabali’s services, recognizing his value as a standout player. This highlights the goalkeeper’s prowess and dependability in the competitive league.
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, acknowledged Nwabali’s abilities by designating him as the primary goalkeeper for the AFCON tournament, surpassing Francis Uzoho. The decision has proven successful, with Nwabali conceding only two goals in six matches against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
Nwabali’s stellar performances have significantly contributed to the Super Eagles’ competitive standing in the continental competition, with their last triumph dating back to 2013.
Commenting on the heightened interest, Nwabali’s agent, Mohammed Lawal, hinted at a potential major move for the player. “There is interest from France and Saudi Arabia. There is no surprise because of his performance during the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast,” Lawal stated. Regarding the reported interest from Kaizer Chiefs, he suggested contacting the club’s chairman for further details.
