Tunde Onakoya aims for 58 hours Chess Marathon to break Guinness World Record

Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya is set to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon in New York City’s Times Square. The founder of Chess in Slums Africa plans to play for 58 hours straight without losing a single match.

Onakoya’s mission is driven by a desire to uplift underprivileged children. He stated, “Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education.”

Currently in New York, Onakoya has been participating in various chess events, including playing and winning matches in Times Square.

Onakoya announced the record attempt on social media: “On April 17, 2024, I will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon in the heart of Times Square, New York City, for 58 hours without losing a game. Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education.”

Onakoya’s supporters have shown strong backing for his upcoming challenge. In the past, he has made his country proud by simultaneously playing against 10 players in Germany and winning all the games.
