Controversial social media figure Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, was re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport on October 31. Bobrisky, who was attempting to board a flight to London, was reportedly escorted off the plane just before takeoff. The arrest occurred shortly after he had been granted bail by Nigerian police authorities.
Eyewitness and fellow passenger Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, confirmed the incident, sharing photos with Bobrisky before departure. Fayose criticized the timing of the arrest, noting Bobrisky’s recent legal challenges.
This arrest follows Bobrisky’s detainment by Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border last week, allegedly while trying to flee the country. Reports also surfaced that Bobrisky allegedly paid EFCC officials ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges. Additionally, an audio recording emerged in which Bobrisky purportedly claimed he served his jail term outside Kirikiri prison, citing “influential connections.” However, he dismissed the recording as fake and pledged to take legal action.
Amid rising controversy, an investigative panel stated no evidence supports claims of Bobrisky serving his sentence outside prison.
