EPL: Arteta Calls for Arsenal Consistency in Title Race

By Abigail Philip David

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged his team to maintain greater consistency as they chase Premier League leaders Liverpool in their bid to claim the league title, following two close calls in recent seasons.

The Gunners, currently second in the table, trail Liverpool by six points. Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, have a game in hand and have displayed impressive form, playing half their league fixtures.

Reflecting on Arsenal’s position, Arteta highlighted the importance of fine margins and attention to detail, as the team looks to close the gap.

“We have to show the same level of consistency, if not more,” Arteta said on Friday. “Over the past year, we’ve been the best team in the league in terms of records, yet we’ve fallen short of a major trophy. Clearly, something is missing.

“It will come down to small details and moments. Sometimes, it’s about flipping the coin the other way. To make that happen, we need to focus solely on what we can control.”

Injury Concerns and Tactical Adjustments

Arsenal’s quest for their first Premier League title since 2004 has been hampered by injuries, including a significant blow with Bukayo Saka sidelined until March due to a hamstring injury sustained against Crystal Palace.

Arteta acknowledged the challenge of replacing Saka’s influence, stating: “It’s unrealistic to expect one player to fill that gap by playing nine consecutive games in that position.

“We need more attacking options, players fit and ready to rotate, and performances to match. Decisions will be based on these factors—it’s that straightforward.”

Transfer Window Uncertainty

As the January transfer window approaches, Arteta remains cautious about potential signings.

“Our focus is on the players we have,” he said. “If there’s an opportunity in the market to bring in someone who can genuinely impact the team and fits our budget, we’ll consider it.

“For now, we’ll work with the squad we have and maximize its potential.”

Arsenal will face Brighton on Saturday, hoping to close the gap on Liverpool and keep their title ambitions alive.
