CHAN 2024: Super Eagles Face Congo in Final Group Match

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take to the pitch today against Congo in their final group-stage match at the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with pride at stake after suffering back-to-back defeats that ended their qualification hopes.

Head coach Eric Chelle admitted that his side has struggled throughout the tournament, losing 1-0 to Senegal in their opener before a crushing 4-0 defeat to Sudan in the second group game. These results confirmed their early exit from the competition.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the encounter, Chelle stressed the importance of finishing the tournament on a respectable note. “We have made several mistakes in our previous games, and while our chances in this tournament are gone, it is important we show character and fight for pride,” he said.

The Super Eagles will battle Congo later today at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, with kick-off scheduled for 6 PM Nigerian time. Congo, still pushing for progression, are expected to come into the game with strong motivation, posing a tough challenge for the Nigerian side.

Despite the setbacks, Chelle expressed confidence in his players’ determination to bounce back with a solid performance. Supporters of the team will be looking forward to a display of resilience and passion as the Super Eagles aim to end their campaign on a positive note.

For Nigeria, today’s match is less about qualification and more about salvaging national pride, rebuilding team confidence, and reassuring fans of better days ahead in future competitions.
