We’ll consolidate on past BFN board’s achievements, says Orbih

Francis Orbih, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), says the committee will build on the good foundation laid by the past board.

Orbih, who is also the immediate past president of the BFN, told our cxorrespondent on Friday in Abuja that the goal and objective of the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee would be to consolidate on the achievements of the board.

“We have been inaugurated and I can tell you that we have the best crop of board members you can imagine anywhere in the country.

“So, we are going to carry on and work like a full board to make sure that we continue with the good work that the past board did before they left office.

“Basically, it is about consolidation and building upon a very solid foundation that was laid in the past four years. That’s what we are going to be focused on,” he said.

On the time frame for the work of the Caretaker Committee, the Orbih said due to the pending issues in court, it was difficult to determine the tenure of the committee.

“We don’t have control over the time line of our work as a caretaker committee because we have a pending case in court.

“So, once that is resolved, I am sure we will go on and conduct our election immediately to usher in a new board.

“For now, our focus is to do the work of a caretaker committee, which is to make sure that the game of Badminton in Nigeria does not suffer and to ensure that we do not lose all the gains of the past few years.

“We had a calendar in the past board and so we are going to study it and see which ones we can continue with and the ones possible for us to run before the end of the year,” he said.

Orbih revealed that the committee held an inaugural meeting immediately after the inauguration and decided to start planning solidly for next year.

“So, very soon we will be rolling out a calendar for next year, which we are going to pursue vigorously to make sure that we are able to achieve as much as possible in that calendar.

“For activities for the remainder of the year, we are going to see what we can do.

“Unfortunately, I must say that because of the lingering issue, we have had to withdraw from the All Africa Seniors in Uganda, which started this week and that is going to negatively affect our players, especially in their world ranking,” he stated.

He also said the sixth edition of the Lagos International scheduled to hold early next month had been canceled because of the issues on ground.

“So, we are hoping that everything will be resolved very shortly so that we don’t suffer anymore damages and setbacks in the interest of the growth of the game in the country,” the chairman said.
