German Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen has finalized the acquisition of Nigerian young talent Daniel Ihendu from RB Leipzig on a free transfer, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Clemens Fritz, Head of Professional Football for Bremen, announced the deal on Sunday, expressing delight in securing the signing of the promising young center-back.
“We’re pleased to have signed a talented young centre-back in Daniel. He’s got a really good physique, is strong in the air, and gets stuck in too. We’re confident that he will take the next steps in his career here with us,” Fritz stated on the club’s official website.
Ihendu will commence his training with the U23 squad and will also have regular involvement with the first team starting from July 5. The club is optimistic that the 17-year-old will progress in his career at Bremen.
The player himself expressed excitement about the new challenge and believes that Bremen is the right step for his development.
“I’m looking forward to my time in Bremen, and I’m certain that this is the right step for my development,” Ihendu said.
Having joined Leipzig in 2018 from Tennis Borussia Berlin’s academy, Ihendu has featured for the club’s U-17 and U-19 teams.
Ihendu becomes Bremen’s second teenage signing of the transfer window, following the earlier acquisition of 18-year-old defender Ethan Kohler from USL Championship side Oakland Roots SC.
