Amaechi Quits APC, Declares Tinubu Unfit to Govern Nigeria

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the party’s failure and the country’s worsening state under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) interim executive, Amaechi said Nigeria is on the brink of total collapse and urgently needs a complete overhaul. He accused both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding to manipulate upcoming elections.

“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. There’s no money to buy food. Inflation is at its peak. Everything is gone,” Amaechi lamented.

He confirmed that he left the APC on Tuesday night and expressed surprise that the party hadn’t already expelled him, noting that he had long warned its leaders to stop inviting him to meetings.

“You can’t remain in a club where most people are stealing and stay silent,” he said.

On the Tinubu government, Amaechi declared: “I have never believed that Tinubu has what it takes to govern this country. People want Buhari to come back.”

He highlighted the naira’s steep decline under Tinubu’s watch, pointing out that the exchange rate had worsened from about ₦460/$1 during Buhari’s tenure to around ₦1,580/$1.

When asked if the naira’s collapse might be the result of a deliberate government policy, Amaechi replied, “Whether deliberate or not, any government that ignores the suffering of its people has no real policy. Tinubu himself said he’s not here to make Nigerians happy.”

Amaechi stressed that his push for change goes beyond partisan politics: “It’s not just about changing the ruling party. It’s about changing Nigeria. We must build a movement that takes over government on behalf of the people.”

On his political future, he said: “I have the right to be ambitious. I’m not overambitious.”
