Basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Igoche Mark, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for prioritising sports development, describing recent initiatives as a positive shift for Nigeria’s sports sector.
Mark said the government’s increased budgetary attention and timely release of funds signal a renewed focus on repositioning sports as a driver of economic growth. He referenced the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), which aims to promote job creation, tourism, investment, and global competitiveness through sports.
According to him, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has identified key areas for reform, including infrastructure rehabilitation, grassroots engagement, and elite athlete development.Mark disclosed that he wrote to President Tinubu on February 10, 2026, to commend the administration’s efforts and encourage sustained commitment to the sector.
He also called on corporate organisations to invest in national teams such as the Super Eagles, Super Falcons, D’Tigers, D’Tigress, and the Yellow Greens, describing them as strong brands capable of attracting sponsorship and becoming self-sustaining.
Mark expressed optimism that sustained government backing and private sector participation would accelerate growth in Nigeria’s sports industry.
